Orchids and Roars at the Franklin Park Zoo!

by | Mar 13, 2024 | 2024, Franklin Park Zoo | 5 comments

Recently, I visited a winter exhibit at the Franklin Park Zoo. The Orchid Adventure set a jungle of tropical orchids from tropical America, West Africa, and Madagascar in the warmth of the zoo’s Tropical Forest. The balmy air inside the forest provided a welcome change from winter’s chill. Here are some photos:

The park outside held its own excitement, though not many visitors ventured to the zoo on a chilly February weekday. It was almost as if I had the park to myself, especially when a roar shook the ground. I bet you can guess the animal I found when I traced the sound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUfDxRelPHg

Although The Orchid Adventure ended on March 10th, there will be an orchid plant sale on Saturday, March 23rd from 9 a.m. to noon. I’m tempted! https://www.zoonewengland.org/engage/orchid-sale/

  2. The photographs are fabulous, Nancy. The Franklin Park Zoo is doing a repeat of the orchids activity, and I will be there with bells around my neck. I am excited! The park, since its major renovation project years ago, is a really neat place to visit, particularly during spring and summer. I hope other readers of your Blog get to know this zoo and visit it; they’ll enjoy participating in the myriad activities offered — not just for the little ones but for the big ones too — like me.

And orchids — they are my favorite. T
This flowering plant is deceptive: It is beautiful to our lens, delicate to our touch but powerful in its strength and staying power after being cut from its natural environment and brought inside our homes. It can last for months in a vase of water if we do for it what we do for ourselves: Feed it, keep its soft petals clean, do not over sun it, and let it — all of our house flowers and plants — listen to music.

Enjoy this brisk but sunny Sunday

    Thanks for this delicious post.
